Jackie had come through a devastating divorce. Jerry had spent years caring for his wife, Lynette, as Alzheimer’s progressed. He lost his business in the process and eventually had to place her in a nursing home.

 

Then Jerry and Jackie started dating. His wife was still alive. People had plenty to say about it. They were judged.

 

But Lynette came first. When Jerry had a heart attack, Jackie visited Lynette every day.

 

Then life threw them some more punches. Jerry moved into Jackie’s home in South Carolina, and then Hurricane Helene destroyed it. Then, Lynette passed away.

Instead of rebuilding their life there, they saw it as a sign.

 

They packed their bags and moved to Virginia Beach to be near their son and daughter—and their three grandchildren.

 

Jerry had already lost his business. He had spent years caring for his wife. Had a heart attack. Now they had lost their home and were starting over in a new state. Within one week of deciding to move, Jerry was offered three jobs.
